Get High on Happiness
A lot of people nowadays complain that they are not happy and their life lost its purpose and meaning. But they don’t do anything for it. They wait and think that it will come their way. As with many things in your life you need to go and do something about it. This is what I’ve done to get my dose of happiness.
Last week I attended the Happiness@Work Conference held here in Prague. This was my second time attending. While last year I was among the audience. This year I wanted to volunteer. This idea already occurred to me during the last year’s conference and this year I made sure this dream came true. And today I can say that so far it has been the best and the most meaningful day of 2018.
I am running on the oxytocin and serotonin (happiness hormones) wave already since last Thursday and it seems it’s not going to end any time soon. Spending a full day giving and helping, and spending it with people whose life purpose and energy is focused on similar visions is incredibly fulfilling and energizing. Who has been there knows what I am talking about. The energy in the room was so intense and so contagious that everyone was smiling and looked happy.
What puzzled me the most was the organizers’ attitude. Normally it is very stressful to organize an event like this. However, @Michal Šrajer, @Lukas Cypra and @Eva Špačkova were all day very calm and smiling and even when the unexpected situations occurred they didn’t show any stress. And what I admire the most is that these people are doing such great and big things but they stay humble and down-to-earth.
Overall humbleness was the motif throughout the day. Even though the chosen speakers are running businesses and leading teams and are very good at it, they haven’t spoken about their own achievements and successes. They all spoke about their teams and families who they believe are the drivers of their and their companies’ success. Some of them were so touching that they made the audience to cry and received standing ovations (and still remained super humble and authentic) – @Josef Dvořáček from Sonnentor and @Petr Pouchlý from Court Of Moravia.
I haven’t seen all the speeches as I came to work there so I can’t mention all those speakers. What I can and want to mention is my learning of the day:
- If you want to be a happy person, it’s only up to you to make it happen.
- If you want to feel good, positive and energized, surround yourself with like-minded people.
- If you want to be a respected and trusted leader, stay humble, authentic and value those around you.
- If you are looking to make yourself and your life more meaningful and happier, I recommend that you chose a topic or a cause that is close to your heart and do some volunteering in that area. You’ll see that it feels great.
I also recommend that you attend the conference next year. I can’t wait to do so.
